Luv Micheal volunteer work is done by talking to 30 people about Luv Michael as a way to spread autism acceptance. Using a conducted over text but I also talked to a couple teachers, friends or family members through zoom or in person. The message that I used when I texted people is as follows:
So I’m advocating for autism acceptance under Luv Michael. Luv Michael is an organization dedicated to helping autistic adults get a job once the age out of state programs. 90% of autistic adults over 21 are underemployed or unemployed. This is because many people don’t understand the ways that autistic people think, act, communicate, or learn. Often this barrier stops autistic people from earning a wage. Luv Micheal combats this by providing autistic adults with training autistic adults to make granola. Why granola, you ask? Granola is very systematic but at the same time uses many different measurements, making it a good exercise for attention to detail. Through this training they learn skills that help them get a NYS State food handlers license, which lets them work with food anywhere in NY state. If you want to find it more about why I’m passionate about autism acceptance and this organization here’s a link: (the link went to a fundraiser I conducted)
If I was talking to them over zoom, phone or facetime I gave a similar pitch, one with the same information but more salesmanship.
Afterwards I filled out a form with screenshots of my conversations and included a short written reflection. The reflection went much like this: I love volunteering with luv Micheal because even if I don’t raise money I know I am still making a difference with my actions. Autism acceptance is something close to heart because my neighbor has IDD (intellectual development disorder). I would love for him someday to be able to get job, especially at luv Micheal, as it is such a loving and caring community.
